Ningxia Night Market 寧夏夜市

Ningxia Night Market was only located about a 15 minute walk from our hotel.  We were able to look up all the things Ningxia was famous for and got to try most of them.  I had my one and only oyster pancake of the trip here.

We also tried some sugarcane milk from 蓮飲料吧 which was right at the entrance of the market.

One thing I love about Asia is that you don’t have to feel bad about buying food from one place, and then bringing it to another place to eat.  As long as you’re also buying something from the place you’re sitting down at, they more than welcome it.  We ended up taking our oyster pancake and our sugarcane milk and sitting down at this food stall where we ordered a chicken rice and some soup.

We were both pretty full at this point, but then we found this one other soup stall that we had read up on.  It was quite interesting because the pot was divided, and one one side, they were poaching eggs, and on the other side, they were boiling soup. Once you place your order, they grab one of the eggs and put it on top of your bowl of soup.  The soup itself was quite good, but as the weather was so hot, I just couldn’t take more than a few sips.

Perhaps the most famous item at Ningxia are the deep fried sweet potato balls.  The line up was really long and so it diverted us from wanting to try them that night.  I can’t wait to go back again next time so that I can finally try them!
