Having Fun at the Richmond Olympic Experience Centre

When I heard that there was a Olympic “museum” in Richmond, I knew I had to go.  I loved the one in Lausanne and always wished I had had more time to spend there.  This is definitely more of an experience centre than a museum but it was just as cool and for anyone wanting to spend an afternoon sharpening up on their Olympic knowledge, this is definitely the place to go.

At the entrance, I am immediately met with a display of Olympic Torches.  It was very interesting to see how it had changed throughout the years.

Then, there was a section about Canada’s history at the games and some of the most memorable moments and stories.

The next section consisted of a spinny thing where you could obtain info about the different countries and their participation of the games.

The entire back half of the museum was dedicated to simulators where you can try your hand at bobsleigh, surfing, ski jump, car racing and a whole bunch of other activities that tested your balance, reaction time, and strength.

The very back of the museum consisted of the medal display and you could actually pick up and hold onto a medal to see what that felt like.  It was very very cool.

I had such a great time at the Richmond Olympic Experience and I’m super thankful I went on a day where there was no one there.  The space isn’t actually that big so I can see how hectic it could get with lots of people, especially kids running around.
