Hotel Review: Dorint Airport-Hotel Amsterdam

I arrived into Amsterdam around 10:00pm at night and set off to find the shuttle bus stop for the bus that would take me to the Dorint Hotel.  At Schipol Plaza, facing the main entrance, walk towards your right until you see Exit M.  The shuttle bus stop is located right outside Exit M.  There are quite a few different hotel shuttles, so make sure you are in line for the correct bus.  The shuttle bus for the Dorint makes 2 stops (at the Ibis and Ibis Budget) before finally arriving at the hotel.  The entire ride takes between 15-20 minutes.

If you’re only in Amsterdam for a day or two and don’t mind staying near the airport, this is definitely a good choice. You can take the shuttle to the airport and then take the train into Amsterdam Central station. Since the travel time is about 20 min on the shuttle, and another 20 min on the train, the entire travel time is close to an hour when you take into consideration the time at the airport waiting for the train as well.

The staff at the hotel were very friendly and I was even upgraded to a superior room at check in.  They also provided an amazing breakfast buffet which was included in my room rate.

There were two negative points that I wanted to bring up.  Firstly, it is considered a business hotel, but the Wi-Fi signal was awfully weak in my room. There were many times where I could not even connect.

Secondly, I had a European adaptor with me but unfortunately it didn’t fit properly into the wall so I asked the front desk if they had one I could borrow. I was told that they did have one but it was already lent out. They told me that I could purchase one from the gift shop, but unfortunately the gift shop was closed by the time I got there. Again, for a hotel of that size, it was surprising that they didn’t have a couple more adapters on hand.  Or, why wouldn’t they keep a few to sell at the front desk for when the shop is closed?  Being a business hotel, I’d imagine that they would receive these sorts of requests quite often.

One of my favourite things about the hotel is the daily breakfast buffet.  They had a huge assortment of pastries, cereals, hot items, fruit and even had a couple of cappucino machines.  My room rate included breakfast but if yours doesn’t, it’ll cost you €20 to enjoy the scrumptious breakfast.

Overall, it was a fantastic stay and if I return to Amsterdam for a short trip, I would not hesitate to stay here again.
