Gate of China 中華門

From the Confucius Complex, it was an easy 20 minute walk towards the Gate of China (中華門).  There are many city gates in China, but this one is said to have the most complex structure in the world.  It is also the longest city wall in the world.  You can’t really tell nowadays as it’s just a flat walkway once you climb up to the top, but back in the day, it acted as an important defence structure for the southern part of the city.

This is the second time I had ever climbed a city gate (the first being in Xi’an a few months earlier).  The locals must know that there really isn’t much to see at the top, as both walls were fairly empty.  I was expecting there to be vendors selling food and typical touristy knick knacks, but it must not be allowed.  The only thing you can really see from the top of the wall are the top of homes and traffic coming into the city. I understand the historical significance, but aside from that, the wall really is quite boring.
