Hotel Review: Chateau on the Park DoubleTree by Hilton

Seeing as Christchurch is the most English city outside of England, this hotel fit right in, as the first glance of it absolutely reminded me of an old English cottage.

Typical of Hilton hotels, we were greeted with a cookie in the modest reception area.  There was also an offering of lemon water, and a concierge desk with many adverts for activities in the area.

The hotel is quite spread out and after a bit of a walk, I finally arrived at my room.  The first thing I noticed was that there is a switch you can use to indicate whether you want housekeeping to make up your room, or to give you privacy.  I quite liked that, as I always found the flimsy signs to be an annoyance.

The room was very spacious and the white décor made it look bright and clean.  The bathroom has both a bathtub and a stand-alone shower, which is a nice luxury.

My only complaint about the room is that they only had 2 pillows on each of the queen beds, and there weren’t any extra pillows to be found in the room.  I’m sure you could call and have more delivered to your room if you really needed them, but it was just a bit surprising since all other hotels in New Zealand that I had stayed in at this point had 4 pillows on each bed.

The buffet breakfast at this hotel was by far the best buffet breakfast I had during my entire time in New Zealand.  The choices were endless and they included many Asian menu items as well, such as Massaman Chicken Curry and Siu Mai.  And both were excellent.  I’ve seen congee at a couple of places but this was the first time for these other items.

Location wise, Hague Park separates the hotel from the more central part of town, but you could easier walk through the park or take transport back to the hotel.

It was too bad that I only got to stay here for one night.  If I were to return to Christchurch, I would definitely choose to stay here again.
