An Afternoon At The Fairylake Botanical Garden

During one of the days of the Chinese National Holiday, a couple of friends and I went to visit Fairylake Botanical Garden (仙湖植物园).  It is located on the eastern side of the city and took over an hour to reach from where I live.

Because it is one of the largest Chinese holiday weeks, Shenzhen is usually dead around this time, as all of the migrant workers take this opportunity to return home.  For this reason, the Fairylake Botanical Garden was likely not as crowded as it normally would be on a weekend.

Fairyland is a huge area consisting of water activities, a temple, a park and a garden.  After entering the garden, we immediately rented a boat and paddle around the lake for some great scenery.

Paddling the boat was actually very tough and although there were 3 of us, all of us became quite tired very quickly.  We decided to take a walk and eventually ended up at the Hongfa Temple (弘法寺).

After visiting the temple, we found a park and just sat around for a picnic and to play cards.  It was such a relaxing day spent in a beautiful area.  The only downside for me was how far this place was located, otherwise I would have returned many more times.
