Beobwon Parade

One morning during my second week in Beobwon, my co-teacher told me that classes were canceled that morning because of the local parade that was happening outside the school.

My co-teacher wasn’t able to explain to me properly what the parade was for, but did mention something about Yulgok, which my apartment building is also named after.  I later found out that Yulgok was one of the most prominent scholars in Korean history.

My co-teacher invited me out to the front of the school to watch the parade which lasted about 10 minutes.  Many of the students were also outside, but I’m not sure where the majority of them were as it didn’t seem like there were that many kids outside.

It was really cool to see a parade run through such a small town.  There were quite a few people in the parade and I’m not sure if they were all citizens of Beobwon or whether they are from the surrounding areas, but for them to put in so much effort for a small town where only a handful of people could enjoy the show, really showed the commitment that went into this.
