We weren’t able to arrive at Crowne Plaza Houston River Oaks until after midnight, so we didn’t have to wait very long to check in. Because we arrived so late, the guard had to let us into the parking lot, which was a bit of an inconvenience because we would have to wait for him to be free before we could be let in. About 20 feet after we entered the parking lot though, we were also required to swipe our hotel card to enter into the hotel guest area, so the parking lot must be shared by other businesses in the area.
As we were only in Houston for one day, we didn’t have much of a chance to enjoy the hotel. We were booked into a standard room but it was very spacious and the extra room was much appreciated. Although the exterior of the hotel appeared older, the interior was nicely decorated and looked newly renovated.
The bathroom was comparatively small and although it was clean, we did notice that there was a vent near the ceiling that was lined with dust and looked like it hadn’t been wiped in months.
One surprising thing for us was that the room came with a microwave, but yet we couldn’t find a safe anywhere. Being a business hotel, we thought for sure that a safe would be a standard.
The location was perfect for us as we had a rental car. There are many supermarkets nearby and you are only about 10 minutes from the Galleria and then 10 minutes (in the other direction) to downtown.
Parking at the hotel costed $9.00 a night but this was never actually mentioned to us at check in or check out. Had I not previously researched this, I would never have known.
Overall, this was a very good stay and I would highly recommend this location for anyone traveling with a rental car.
