Chongqing Chaotianmen 朝天門

Chaotianmen is an important part of Chongqing as Chaotianmen Square is the place where you can witness the Yangtze and Jialing Rivers converging into one.  The square is very busy as everyone has the same idea of wanting to see the two rivers joining together.  Don’t be fooled by the pictures online which show the Yangtze with brownish yellow water and the Jialing with clear blue water. It’s just one big brownish yellow body of water!

As with all of Chongqing, the air seems much more polluted than anywhere else I’ve been in China and the skies are constantly grey and gloomy because of this.  Unfortunately this made for a less than ideal experience, but it is still something that I would highly recommend doing in Chongqing.  It was a great way to spend the afternoon, as the surrounding area is also full of interesting shops and street vendors.
