Hotel Review: Hotel Ibis Hong Kong North Point

The Hotel Ibis in North Point is a very economical option if you’re looking for a hotel on Hong Kong Island.  I have stayed here twice before and the rooms are very small, but they are clean and still have everything that you would expect – TV, hair dryer, in room safe, and fridge.

Upon entering the hotel, you can either take the elevator or the stairs up to the second floor where the check in and lobby area are.  The check in process is painless and the staff are very well trained to provide decent service.  The lobby is a modern area with a few bar stools and tables.

The room we received on my latest stay was on the 12th floor and upon entering, there was an immediate musky, humid smell.  Of course, this was due to the weather more than the hotel itself, but I think something could have been used in the room to get rid of the smell.

Our room had 2 single beds, but there was only about 3 inches in between the two beds, and the bags themselves were very narrow (about 2/3 the size of a regular twin bed). Because the room was so tiny, it was difficult to get around even with just two people in the room.  It also doesn’t help if you have large suitcases. Our room ended up having a nice view of the North Point ferry pier, but it was a very gloomy day.

The biggest problem with the hotel were the elevators. There were only 2 very small elevators for around 25 floors, and there were several times we had to wait more than 5 minutes before one of the elevators would have room to take us up or down.

The staff at the hotel were extremely polite and friendly, and knew the answer to every question I asked. The hotel is located about a 30 second walk from Exit A1 of North Point MTR Station, making it a very conveniently located hotel. Also, there is a big bus terminal right across from the hotel, and you can catch the A11 bus, which will take you directly to the airport.

Overall, this is a very good economical hotel choice. It is located a little further away, but with the MTR station being so close, it really wasn’t an issue.
