Stanley Market 赤柱市集

Stanley Market is a street market located in a remote part of Hong Kong that reminds me a great deal of all the street markets in South East Asia.  Due to the set up of the area it didn’t feel like Hong Kong at all.

The promenade area is lined with restaurants facing the water, which had a number of boats that looked like they weren’t even docked properly and just scattered wherever the owner felt like stopping.

Although most places in Hong Kong are filled with both Western and Chinese influences due to the British colonization of Hong Kong in the 1800s, I don’t believe there is a place in Hong Kong where this is more apparent than Stanley.  Everything about this area seemed more British than it does Chinese.

The Stanley area was such a peaceful, relaxing area to spend an afternoon.  I would highly recommend it to anyone visiting Hong Kong.  The only unfortunately thing is that it is a bit out of the way, and requires about an hour’s bus ride to reach.
